Thanksgiving Eve 2012...

On Wednesday, November 21st @ 7:30 pm we will host the Fifth Annual Festival of American Music at First Church.  This will be my 30th such event - one for every year of my ordination - and this show will be a real rock and soul event: great horn section, tight drummer, excellent guitarists, singers and our own incredible man on keys!
I've discovered three things happening at these gigs - and here more than ever before:

+ First, we get a lot of musicians together with people who love music and sing and play and celebrate the beauty and awe of being alive.  Singing together with others is a sweet and sacred thing that doesn't happen nearly as often as it should.

+ Second, we raise funds for our neighbors in needs.  Locally we're contributing to the regional inter-faith heating fuel assistance fund.  In the past, we've taken up contributions for Katrina relief or hunger/soup kitchen support.

+ And third, bridges are built between the musicians as we cross styles, genres and even comfort levels.  It feels like a family reunion each year when we get back for our first rehearsal - and that joy is contagious.

So, if you're in the area, please think about being a part of the party!
