Today we took the first steps towards getting our old truck up and running again: it has been living in our garage since about Thanksgiving but now is the time for new life! With a new battery, this old friend will travel to Stockbridge tomorrow to get a windshield wiper overhaul and some other minor work. I've missed this old rambler - a Nissan tank built to last - with COEXIST and MAKE MUSIC NOT WAR bumper stickers all over the back.
Some cars come and go, yeah? And who cares about others - but this one is special. It made the journey with us all the time we were in Arizona. It travelled to California and back a few times, too. And we drove it across the country back to our new home in Pittsfield five years ago with our old, old dog in the back. (He continues to slip away a little more every day but still mostly full of good cheer.)
So it made my heart smile when the AAA guy got the new battery in it and our old friend started to hum good as ever. Life is sweet in the Berkshires this night... very, very good.
