At the close of a day...

We played a very satisfying ~ albeit sometimes challenging ~ jazz vespers tonight.  I am grateful that it went well and that the folk who attended both appreciated the musicality of our wildass little band and made the connections.  Jazz, it seems, is like the evening incense ~ musical prayers that rise and swirl and lead us into places we might never have imagined.

The whole day made me think of a new poem by Wendy Videlock titled, "I Don't Buy It."

I don't buy it, says

the scientist.

Replies the frail

and faithful heart,

it's not for sale.

Tomorrow, life ~ and ministry ~ return to the regular buzz of Ordinary Time in this post Epiphany season.  There are people to visit, liturgies to write, budgets to be secured and all the rest. And let's not forget the Christmas tree we need to take down, too.  And so it begins...
