One of my favorite indie bands is Arcade Fire - a creative, wild ass bunch of musicians who hail from one of my favorite places in creation: Montreal - and they are out on the road again starting today. They debut their new album - The Suburbs - with a live streaming from Madison Square Garden before heading off to a few US festivals and a late summer in Europe. They aren't afraid to take chances, can sing in harmony and play a TON of fun instruments including fiddle and hurdy gurdy.
I think of these guys today - their energy, their focus and their commitment to beauty and fun - because we head out for our annual sojourn in Canada in a few days. This year we're exploring Halifax during the International Buskers Festival. Imagine: five days of street musicians, artists and performers in a beautiful northern town! But before we depart this weekend is chock full of fun and surprises, too:
+ In just a short time, my blogging buddy - Black Pete (and his dear wife Joyce) - will arrive in town from Thunder Bay, Ontario for a few days of visiting, playing music and seeing what's happening in our neck of the woods. So far, in addition to whatever music WE create, we're going to check out some jazz tomorrow and some Yoyo Ma on Sunday.
+ What's more, another friend is in town to preach at our church in what we call a "neutral pulpit." (I can't really say a whole lot more about that at this time except it will be fun to be with this dear soul and hear the Word in a New way.)
So, now let's just that it is time to move into a new groove...
