I choose to stand with Newtown...

Our friends at Sojourners are circulating this letter to be sent to Congress:  I am in and share it with you, too.  (Check it out: https://mail.google. com/mail/u/0/#inbox/ 13cd422090f654a8)

We are pastors, community leaders, brothers, sisters, parents, and children. We are present at births, baptisms, weddings, and funerals. We grow, celebrate, and mourn along with the communities in which we work and serve.

Our hearts break whenever a human life comes to a violent end. Along with the rest of the country, we have watched with sorrow and disbelief at the senseless gun violence in Newtown, Oak Creek, Aurora, Tucson and so many other places. These mass shootings are a painful reminder that such tragedies occur every day on our city streets. We know that God's heart breaks and parents mourn whether a child is killed in a classroom in the suburbs of Connecticut, a movie theater in Colorado, outside a school in Chicago, or on the streets of Los Angeles.

All of our children, no matter the color of their skin, bleed red. All of our parents, no matter where they are from, cry bitter tears when they bury a child.

For the love of God and the lives of our nation's children, we call on Congress to enact common-sense public safety laws to reduce gun violence in our communities. Our faith compels us to action; we pray that it will convict you to lead.

Our friends at the Sandy Hook Promise are sharing "virtual valentines" for the people of Newtown.  Check it out: http://www.1millionhearts.sandyhookpromise.org/?utm_source= 1millionheartsblast0213&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1millionheartsblast0213#
