One of the blessings of doing confirmation with middle school kids is that they are both children and almost adults. They are so freakin' wonderful it is amazing! Tonight we talked about the seasons of the church year - liturgical theology - and why we do what we do. They were really into it. And the adult mentors who were able to stay were into it, too. We talked about learning to wait well - and feasting - and learning to handle hard things with patience and grace - and feasting - and then being open to the Spirit. That is, we spoke of Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter, Pentecost and Ordinary Time.
I am so glad we decided to add another year to our process: my confirmation kids are all GREAT! (This picture is from 3 years ago when they were tiny... now they are growing up!) During Lent, we will celebrate Eucharist each week and have one of the confirmation kids and their mentors serve communion with me. I am such a blessed man.
