Christian Piatt recently wrote in Sojourner's: Advent isn’t about expectations. As they say in 12-step groups expectations are little more than premeditated resentments. This just means that every time we set conditions under which we’ll finally be happy, fulfilled or content, we’ll inevitably be let down.
Premeditated resentments - that's almost as good as the Wailin' Jennys saying that worry is like praying for something you DON'T want to happen. So Advent is resting and wandering into the open-ended mystery of God's presence. Here's to a day of mystery...
