Another truly great American artist has gone home: Merle Haggard. Say what you want about this tough guy from Bakersfield, CA, but he was the real deal. He hung with Hank, Jr. Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash and all the outlaws of country music - and just kept getting better. He opened once for a Bob Dylan tour that was amazing. And today he passed... so here's my all time favorite Merle tune recorded on Hank Juniors "Rowdy" album from 1981: "Footlights."
