+ We drove through some of the places we have visited in former sojourns as a way of remembering and returning thanks. We hadn't intended to wind up in Magog but we did - and loved it once again. There is a very accessible nature walk that closed out today and it was a joy to visit this old friend yet again.
+ Some have mistakenly interpreted my reflections on pilgrimage and engagement in these confounding times as a retreat into quietism. Not to be engaged in the challenges of justice and compassion would not only violate a lifetime of commitment, but would be antithetical to the God I love and serve. Jesus chose Non-cooperation with the status quo more than any other action and encouraged his followers to do likewise. When we must, we render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's. But most of the time, instead of carping, whining, or beating his head against a wall that would not budge, he found ways to love and heal those who were closest to him. Well into my 70's, that is where I find myself these days, too.
+ So, in addition to making creative and joy-filled music with colleagues I cherish and trust, I preach, teach, and stand in solidarity with a small faith community in Palmer and trust that sharing life together is what the Lord requires.
Tomorrow we return to the US: we'll cut the grass, tend our overgrown garden, go to the doctor's office, and prepare for Sunday worship. Next week All of Us will play a private party in Otis after Sunday worship. On Saturday the 12th, we play Methuselah in Pittsfield and start preparing for a barn party on October 4th @ 2 pm in Richmond. We'll also celebrate our beloved grandson's 13th birthday that weekend and rejoice with the wider family. Be safe, dear ones, more to come...
